Snow Hop Brewery’s Game Changer

Snow Hop Brewery’s Game Changer

by Karen Weik

Not only is Snow Hop Brewery one of Helena’s hot new craft brewing options, but they have bragging rights for something very unique in the state too: a female head brewer. One of only three women in Montana crafting local beer, Helena’s Becky Peppelman is proud to call the beers at Snow Hop her own.

Raised in a suburb of Philadelphia, Becky came to Montana 15 years ago looking for change. She found it in the brewing industry. With hands-on training and a certificate from Siebel Institute, she began to hone her skills. The hard work paid off. Today, Becky crafts beers not widely available in the US, and recently received a travel scholarship to join the Pink Boots Society for a Beer, Brats and Beyond Cultural Exchange to Germany October 19-29. One of eleven women selected for the co-ed tour, the trip will give them a peek inside the Bavarian brewing industry and a chance to build relationships between North American and Bavarian breweries. The eleven-day training will include sessions, tastings and tours.

Becky, who loves to hike and kayak, says it’s the beer here in Big Sky country that is closest to her heart. “I love the beer in Montana—the amount of breweries here is phenomenal!”

Stop by Snow Hop Brewery today, at 685 Barney Street in Helena, to wish Becky good luck on her travels. And if you haven’t tried their unique beer selection, it’s a great time to do so. (I recommend Vanilla Stout!)  www.snowhopbrewery.com
