It began when I was a small child. Really, I have my grandpa to thank for it all. He was the one influencing me with his love of the classic voices of his century, like those of Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra. I remember finding out at 10-years old that Frank Sinatra had passed a few years prior, during my lifetime. The fact that I could have seen him live and never got to shattered my young 10-year old heart. Fortunately, through my teens I consoled myself with CDs of his greatest hits, picking up a few other favorite artists along the way. When I was in high school, my choir director introduced me to the musical stylings of Barbra Streisand, I’ve been hooked on her movies and music ever since.
After finding out that Helena’s very own Starz on Stage would be bringing “The Concert That Never Was” featuring the music of Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand, I knew I needed to catch up with Starz on Stage director, Joy Novota. The concert on Friday, April 29, 2016 will not be the duo’s first trip to Helena. In fact, they were here five years ago. Joy shared that “audience members had a wonderful time and within a short while, we were asked many, many times if the duo could ever return to Helena. The music was memorable, the songs were familiar…we began our pitch to bring the duo back to Helena to be a part of our newly formed cabaret concert series, Starz on Stage. Getting on the show’s routine at the right time took a lot of patience and perseverance, and now it’s back full circle! “The Concert That Never Was” will be the closing concert of our 5th season of Starz on Stage. Anyone who loves the standards of the music world – standards by the likes of Dean Martin, Perry Como, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Doris Day, Patti Page…and of course, Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand, will find themselves singing along with Sebastian Anzaldo and Sharon Owens as they depict two of the favorite musical icons of the 20th century.”
Novota herself has been a big fan of Sinatra and Streisand for some time. Frank Sinatra – “there’s just something about the voice, the swagger, the command of the stage.” And Barbra, “her voice can send shivers down your back with the clarity she delivers. We promise our attendees an opportunity to escape the news of the day and the woes of the world as they enter a Las Vegas setting in Helena – our cabaret promises you an evening of laughter, fun, musical memories, and wonderful conversation with your table mates!”
Come join us for the sounds of Frank Sinatra and Barbra Streisand on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the Gateway Center in Helena, Montana. Purchase your tickets online at www.StarzonStage.net.
